Window Shopping for Fests, Exchanges and Big Bangs

So, browsing around the internet like one does, I find myself window-shopping for events that I'd love to see over in Dramione fandom! fandomcalendar and bigbangindex are great for fannish window-shopping, and here are some cool events that I'd love to see for our ship.

A Reverse Big Bang - Working off a piece of art, authors write a story of 10,000/20,000 words or more.

A Career Fair Fest - like the Harry/Draco Career Fair, where the theme is that the characters have to have unusual careers. No Aurors, Unspeakables, Potion Masters, etc, but instead things like lion tamers, bakers, etc. I love the suggestion in the H/D Career Fair banner: health inspector and pastry chef! :D

Fairy Tale/Myth/Folkhlore-themed Big Bangs - I've seen these more in Supernatural fandom, but I think they're neat ideas.

What are some types of events that you'd like to see?

We've had a reverse bang, run by H&V, but I'm always interested in seeing more! :D

I loved that reverse bang on H&V. I wasn't in the fandom when it happened, but I've stumbled across some of the fic/art from it, and I pretty much love every single thing that came out of it. :D

Something to generate more AU fics. I adore AU's, I wish there were more around. Future fic, era fic (1920’s, regency, middle ages, WW2 etc), teacher/student, magical creature, Pureblood!Hermione, Muggleborn!Draco, Slytherin!Hermione, Voldemort dystopia, age-gap, etc etc. Just anything AU I will devour. For obvious reasons then the Fairytale/Myth/Folklore really appeals to me ;)

Ooooh, YES, AU FICS! I think that right now, if you like AUs, tumblr seems to provide the most with manips. I'd love to see more AU fic, like you mentioned, but I've seem some fantastic AU manips floating around tumblr. Try justdramione, if you haven't poked around tumblr yet. That blog, which is run by musyc, links to the original manip artists as well, so it's a good way to find manip artists on tumblr. :D

Oh I'm good on the tumblr state of things, all over that baby. Those manips are just fueling my desire to actually read more AU fic, they're such a tease :P

Oh, I know what you mean! Especially when they come with a little paragraph at the bottom - it's like a land filled with delicious abandoned WIPs! I mean, I love the manips and ficlets, but I just want more. XD

Hee! I find this an interesting contrast to my own enjoyment of those graphics, and I wonder if its the difference between consumer and producer. I like the manips in this vein, but I almost never reblog ones that have ficlets attached. I want to have the pictures so that I can come up with my own fics, and not have someone else's idea poking at my mind.

There's a line from the short animated film 'Rejected' (which is a fantastic piece of WTFBBQ-amazing obscenely violent stick-figure animation - warning, might have stick-figure cannibalism!) which perfectly sums up my relationship with fanfiction.

"I am a consumer whore."

I will take all the fanfiction, ever, and read it. If you could see my 'recently read' history on FanFiction.net, you would be embarrassed on my behalf. :P

I'm going to second/third/nth the AU thing. We see hardly any of those that aren't "Voldie Wins". Love those, yes, but more variety would be fantastic. (She says, with four different sets of notes in her WIP folder. >.> )

I feel that we need to run around kidnapping mods - or cloning them in vats - so that we can have more fests/exchanges/who knows what. :D

:S I would flail so much if there was an AU fest! I always thought the problem with a fest would be more how many people would actually write for it and how it would be run i.e. open sign ups or prompting etc. Clearly I'd be eager for a fest but as much as I wish I could, I cant write to save my life. I am most disappointed with myself for that :P

Love the idea of a fairy tale/myth/folklore-themed Big Bang! All that sort of stuff is totally my thing.

I also love the notion of working off a piece of art. H&V did that not too long ago with their Reverse Challenge, and it was amazing.
